Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) finally gave its nod to smartphone makers to build Bluetooth version 5 into their devices. The SIG has first announced the Bluetooth 5 in June and made it official.
The latest generation of the wireless standard have four times range, two times speed and eight times broadcast capacity than the current generation. Apart from the longer range, faster speed, and larger broadcast capacity, the Bluetooth 5 also comes with improved interoperability and coexistence with other wireless technologies.
The latest generation of Bluetooth also advances into Internet of Things (IoT) by enabling effortless interactions among the multiple connected devices. With the longer range, the latest generation powers whole home and building coverage through more robust and reliable connections. With higher speeds, it enables the devices to interact with each other more responsively. And with increased broadcast capacity, it improves the message size and provides more context relevant solutions.
“Bluetooth is revolutionizing how people experience the IoT. Bluetooth 5 continues to drive this revolution by delivering reliable IoT connections and mobilizing the adoption of beacons, which in turn will decrease connection barriers and enable a seamless IoT experience.” Said Mark Powell, Executive Director of the Bluetooth SIG.
Therefore, you can now expect the longer range for your Bluetooth headphones with the minimum impact on sound quality of audio playback. According to Bluetooth SIG, users can expect the products built with Bluetooth 5 in coming 2-6 months.
