First unveiled worldwide last month in May, the company’s flagship device of the year HTC U11 is finally gearing up for the India’s launch. The company has already started sending out the press invites for the launch event to be held in New Delhi on this Friday i.e., 16th June. As the device will be competing against the likes of LG G6 and Samsung Galaxy S8, it is expected to be priced around Rs 50,000.
Talking about the device, HTC has introduced the much awaited Edge Sense technology which lets you squeeze your phone to execute some specific actions. It lets users scroll and navigate between apps and even take selfies just by rubbing on the edges. Swiping the touch-sensitive right edge summons voice assistant to give any command while swiping the same spot inside the music app changes the volume. In a similar way, the same spot act as a camera controller while inside the photography app.
The HTC U11 runs Android 7.1 Nougat with Sense UI 9.0 on top. The phone also comes up with Sense Companion introduced with U Ultra earlier this year. Sense Companion is HTC’s own in-house developed an AI-based system which will work independently of Google’s voice assistant to give you suggestions based on your device usage pattern. The phone will also come with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa depending upon the geographical markets.
Specs wise, the HTC U11 puts on a 5.5-inch Quad HD Super LCD 5 display panel with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. The display further gets Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Qualcomm’s this year flagship chipset Snapdragon 835. It comes in two different variants of storage and RAM – one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage and another one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage.
For photography, the HTC U11 sports a 12-megapixel Ultra Pixel primary camera with 1.4-micron pixel size, f/1.7 aperture, optical image stabilization, a dual-LED flash, and 4K video recording. The phone also support 1080p Slo-Mo video recording @ 120fps. Up front, the phone flaunts a high-res 16-megapixel snapper for video calling and selfies. It records 1080p videos and also features Selfie Panorama mode.
For connectivity, the phone gets USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, NFC, and GPS. Sadly, it lacks the 3.5mm audio jack. The phone comes in both single and Dual SIM iterations with 4G VoLTE support. It draws its power from a 3,000mAh battery backed with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 to fill the tank quickly. It also has a front-mounted fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button.
Most importantly, the phone also comes with IP67 certifications for water and dust resistance. It comes in five colour options – Amazing Silver, Sapphire Blue, Brilliant Black, Ice White, and Solar Red. However, it is yet to be confirmed how many of these colour options will be available in India.
