Leak: Xiaomi Mi 5C to Come With Pinecone V670 Chipset And No Home Button

Just two weeks ago we came across a leaked images of Xiaomi Mi 5c which showed the device sporting a 5-inch Full HD display and a physical home button integrating fingerprint scanner. Well, a recent leak just busted the earlier one by showing the images of ‘claimed Mi 5c’ without a physical home button. As of this moment, it’s hard to decide which render will turn out to be true.

The new leak emerged from the Chinese microblogging website Weibo where a leakster who goes by the username of @strongmachine claimed the leaked images are straight from Foxconn manufacturing unit. As you see in the above image, the phone lacks a physical home button. Unlike all other Xiaomi devices, the position of the front camera is also inverted from right to left in the claimed image of Xiaomi Mi 5c.

The lack of physical home button also raises questions about the location of the fingerprint scanner. As the leakster hasn’t posted an image of the device facing back panel, we could speculate it to mount a fingerprint scanner on the back.

Another interesting fact about Xiaomi Mi 5s – this will be Xiaomi’s first smartphone to be powered by in-house made Pinecone chipset. As per the current reports, Xiaomi is working on two Pinecone chipsets with model number V670 and V970. The V670 is said to come with two clusters of quad Cortex A-53 cores, thus resulting in an octa-core architecture with a clock speed of 800MHz and Mali T860 MP4 GPU. Furthermore, the V670 chipset is also said to be using a 28nm manufacturing process.

While on the other hand, the V970 will use a cluster of four Cortex-A73 cores and another cluster of four Cortex-A53 cores, thus resulting in an octa-core architecture with a clock speed of 900MHz and Mali G71 MP12 GPU. The V670 is said to be manufactured using a 10nm FinFET process and is expected to come only in the fourth quarter of this year.

So, we could clearly say that the Xiaomi Mi 5c will be equipped with Pinecone V670 processor which is currently being claimed to be equivalent of Snapdragon 808 chipset. There are also reports claiming the device to come in two different variants with one being equipped with Snapdragon and another with Pinecone chipset. As far as the other specs are concerned, it is expected to get 3GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, 3,200mAh battery, 12MP primary camera and an 8MP front facing camera. It is expected to be priced around Rs 15,000.
