Baba didn’t expect to comment on this one, after all the big fish Amazon is in India now. Medianama gives a perspective on what Junglee in India means (Spoiler: Advertising Service) and a personal voice from Pricebaba camp is out there as well. But thats not what brings us to the edit window of a new post … our friend @rajupp has an interesting question: what does Junglee mean for price comaprison startups like MySmartPrice and Pricebaba?
Short answer: Nothing
While we only speak for Pricebaba, we are sure our friends at MySmartPrice would agree as well.
If one is a price comparison or a price intelligence portal (as we like to call oursleves), the objective is to give an unbiased perspective to the shopper. The motivation is to help the buyer get a good deal. Of course there is a business model wrapped around that, but we aren’t sellers. We do not exist to sell a mobile handset to the consumers and make profits. We are a comparison portal, not a advertising service / catalogue.
What that means is a buyer can trust us with the insights we give. And they know that we do not expect them to buy from us or the source we mention, they have the information they were looking for and we are happy that they got a good bargain, whereever they finally made a purchase.
Hope that helps understand that we intend to be an authority in giving pricing insights and not sell goods to buyers. A platform we are and a platform we shall be. A retailer offering us 2% or 20% affiliate income wont deter us from giving you the price that we feel is the best!
