Qualcomm Technologies has introduced the all new Snapdragon 636 mobile platform at the 4G/5G summit held in Hong Kong. The platform comes with several key enhancements across the board including performance, gaming and display. It further expands the lineup which saw the launch of Snapdragon 660 and 630 in May this year.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 makes use of the Qualcomm Kryo 260 CPU. This makes the chipset around 40% faster in terms of performance when compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 630. To enhance graphic rendering and gaming performance, it has got the Adreno 509 GPU. This improves the gaming and browsing performance by up to 10%.
Even display capabilities have been improved in the new platform. It now includes Qualcomm’s own TruPalette and EcoPix technologies to make the display look better. It has also included support for ultra-wide Full HD+ displays along with Assertive Display, both of which will be helpful for OEMs wanting to implement them.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 also features the X12 4G LTE modem which enables peak download speeds up to a staggering 600mbps.
Qualcomm says, “The Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform uses a 14nm FinFet process, and is pin and software compatible with the Snapdragon 660 and 630 mobile platforms, allowing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) already using these platforms to quickly and efficiently add Snapdragon 636 to their device line-ups.”
The new Snapdragon 636 will ship from next month. No mobile phones have been announced yet which will feature this processor but it can be expected in the coming months.
