We attended the TiE Smashup at IIT Bombay last weekend. A startup focussed event with No Suits, No PPTs, no buzzwords! Here are a few takeaways that we had from the event!
- Parikshit Dar from BookMyShow shared their journey. Did you know that BookMyShow is a 15 year old company — founded in 1999? After seeing numerous downturns, BookMyShow has finally established itself as a the winner in the ticketing game.
- The Burrp Mafia is real! Anand is rocketing with Wizrocket (we use it and it’s great), Nischal Shetty of JustUnfollow is doing great with $1 million in revenues and 7 million users & Avlesh is going international with WebEngage.
- Housing spent $500,000 on buying their domain name! Advitiya Sharma of Housing mentioned that they are building the business for the long term & the investment is worth it! If you think of it, for creating a lasting company like Google or Apple, the amount paid for the domain won’t be regretted in the next 5 to 10 years (or even 100 years).
- Wishberg doesn’t want you to login to yet another social network just to log your wishes. So they made a cool hack, just tweet your wish with the hashtag #Wishberg and your wishes would show up on Wishberg.com! Even if you aren’t a registered member yet, just sign in with your Twitter account and all your wishes would be there. We love this hack!
And of course, flaunting our Smashers Award!
