WhatsApp Will Stop Working on These Devices In Three Weeks

WhatsApp has announced that by the end of this year, it will stop supporting older smartphones. Most of these phones are running on older versions of Android, Windows, iPhone and Blackberry OS. So, if you have a device running on any of these OS, it is now time to upgrade. Here is how you can find out if your phone will still run WhatsApp at the end of this year.

WhatsApp Will Stop Working

For Android devices, Whatsapp support will stop by the end of 2016 for devices running on Android 2.1 (Eclair) and Android 2.2 (Froyo) versions. According to Google, currently only 0.1 percent of total Android devices are running on Froyo, thus it should not affect a lot of users. Also, devices running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread and above will not have any issues.

For iPhones, the support will stop for the devices still running on iOS 6. As per data shared by Apple for the month of October 2016, only 8 percent of all devices are running iOS 9 and below. So, except for the users who are still on iOS 6, there’s nothing to worry about.

Talking about all other OS, Whatsapp will stop working on the devices which are still running on Windows 7. WhatsApp has extended support for Nokia S40, Symbian S60, Blackberry 10, and BB OS till June 2017. So, if you have a device running on any of these OS, you have time till June to upgrade.

If you have an Android phone, here is the procedure to check the Android version of your phone.

  • First, tap on the setting icon on your device.
  • Now, scroll to the bottom in setting menu and tap on ‘About’
  • Here, you can see the Android Version.

If it is above 2.2, then there is nothing to worry about and WhatsApp will support it even after 31st December 2016.

Here’s the procedure for iPhone to check for the iOS version.

  • Similar to Android, first tap on setting icon among the apps.
  • In the setting menu, tap on ‘General’.
  • Now tap on ‘About’ and check for the version. It should be above 6 to support WhatsApp post 31st Dec.

Well, if you have a Windows phone, you should have upgraded it ages ago.
