Xiaomi has finally unveiled its most anticipated smartphone of the year with a bezel-less display and a smaller footprint – the Mi Mix 2. The 2nd generation Mi Mix comes with same edge-to-edge display in a smaller package than its predecessor. The company also unveiled Mi Note 3 and Mi Notebook Pro along with the Mi Mix 2.
Talking about the front panel of the phone, it was leaked way before the official launch suggesting the phone to have a 93% screen-to-body ratio. Now, the device is officially unveiled revealing the handset with non-existent bezels. Apart from the lower chin which sports the front camera, the phone has no bezels whatsoever.
Talking about specs, unlike the 6.4-inch display predecessor, the Mi Mix 2 sports a 5.99-inch Full HD display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and ultra narrow bezels surrounding it. As promised, the Mi Mix 2 is 12% smaller than the first generation Mi Mix. Under the hood, the handset is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 835 processor. Accompanying the chipset, the phone gets 6GB of RAM and three different storage options – 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. The company has also launched a Special Edition with 8GB of RAM.
Talking about the optics, the Mi Mix 2 sports the same Sony IMX386 sensor which the Mi 6 was seen sporting. It puts on a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front snapper located on the right of the bottom chin. The front cam also supports face recognition and can unlock the device by scanning your face. Similar to its predecessor, the company has chosen a piezoelectric ceramic acoustic system instead of a standard earpiece. It’s located under the display and allows you to listen to calls without the need of an actual earpiece.
The Mi Mix 2 also offers an enhanced audio experience with 50mW high power speaker. For connectivity, the handset supports Dual Nano SIM cards supporting 6 modes and 43 bands. Other connectivity options include 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac (dual-band), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, and USB Type-C port. Powering all, the phone packs in a 3,400mAh battery backed with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging.
Coming to the pricing section, the standard edition Mi Mix 2 with the four-sided curved ceramic body with aluminium alloy frame starts at 3299 Chinese Yuan (Rs. 32,350). The Special Edition, however, comes in Black and White colors and carries a price tag of 4699 Chinese Yuan (Rs. 46,060). The company has also confirmed that the Mi Mix 2 will be coming to India soon. 🙂
