The HTC Desire 500 is a slightly watered down version of the Desire 600. It has a slightly smaller 4.3-inch display with a typical 800 x 480 pixel WVGA resolution. It is powered by a Snapdragon 200 quad-core chip clocked at 1.2GHz. There's 1GB of RAM and half the internal storage of the Desire 600 (i.e. 4GB). A microSD card slot is available for expansion though. It shares the same 8 megapixel BSI sensor camera at the rear and a front-facing 1.6MP camera. It can record videos in 720p HD resolution. It runs a fairly recent Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with the Sense 5 User Interface as seen in the HTC One. Connectivity-wise, the Desire 500 has 3G support of up to 7.2 Mbps, WiFi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0. There's a dual-SIM variant of this phone too. The 1800 mAh battery sounds reasonably large to cater to the lower mid-range specs of this phone.
The Samsung Galaxy SIII (S3 / SGS3) is one of the most anticipated Android mobiles to launch in 2012. The S3 replaces the Samsung Galaxy S2 as the flagship offering from Seoul, and goes head-to-head with Apple's iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 smartphones. The Galaxy S3 has a large 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen sporting a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The screen resolution reaches a density of 309 PPI on the Galaxy S3, thereby taking it above the 300 PPI "Retina" threshold. It houses a Quad-core 1.4 GHz Exynos processor and 1GB of RAM. Samsung has also integrated a Siri-like feature, dubbed S Voice into the SGS3. An 8 megapixel BSI sensor at the back takes great snaps, videos are shot in high 1080p HD resolution. The front-facing camera measures in at 1.9 megapixels, and does 720p HD video. Samsung has also baked in a lot of functionality over and above Android (4.1 Jelly Bean) — stuff like Eye tracking feature. A large 2100 mAh battery provides ample standby time even with heavy usage.

Update: The latest smartphone from the S lineup is the Samsung Galaxy S6 32GB.
