Micromax has launched its first 8 inch tablet, a segment which was till now dominated by Samsung and Apple. Canvas Tab P650 is also the first flagship tablet in the Canvas series which comes in 2 color variants viz Marine Blue and Pristine White. It has a full aluminium body which feels and looks better than the Funbook tablets. It sports 8 inch display with IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen and has 1024x768 pixel resolution. It runs the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean version and is powered by 1.2GHz Mediatek MT8389 Quad-core processor. It’s got 1GB RAM and has internal 16GB storage out of which 11.07GB is available to the user. The memory can be further increased up to 32GB by inserting a microSD card.
This tab comes with single SIM support and also offers voice calling abilities along with 3G connectivity which gives it an advantage over other tablets. In the camera department, it has a 5MP rear-facing camera with autofocus feature and a 2MP front facing camera which according to the company gives crisp and sharp images. The Canvas Tab supports HD videos and also popular video formats like AVI, MOV, MKV and MP4. The tab comes with preloaded apps like Opera, Kingsoft Office, M!Security and many other apps can be downloaded from Google Play Store. One can multi-task by doing 2 things simultaneously on one screen; much like Samsung’s split-screen mode. The device comes packed with 4800mAh battery which company claims will deliver 10 hours of talktime and 400 hours standby.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (P3100) comes as an immediate improved version of the prior Galaxy Tab 7.0 released six months before the former. Tab 2’s 7 inches PLS LCD capacitive touch screen gives an amazing WSVGA resolution of 600 by 1024 pixels. It has a TouchWiz UX UI. This tablet is powered by TI OMAP 4430 chipset and has a dual-core processor of 1GHz. It runs on Android OS v4.0 (Ice-Cream Sandwich) which is upgradable to v4.1. Galaxy Tab 2 has an internal memory of 8/16/32GB storage, a card slot and 1GB RAM. For data and connectivity, this Tab gives features like 2G/3G networks, GSM voice communication, dual-band Wi-Fi, DLNA, GPS with internal GLONASS and Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP and HS.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 offers a 3.15MP camera which entails geo-tagging, smile detection and video recording (720p at 30fps). It gives an image resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels. It also has a secondary VGA camera for video calls. Galaxy Tab 2 comes loaded with multimedia-oriented Samsung applications like ChatOn for group chats, Voice call, Reader’s Hub for book-lovers, S Suggest, Samsung Kies and AllShare Play. Its other features include QuickOffice HD editor, TV out, Voice memo and Predictive text input (Swype). Tab 2 runs on a standard Li-ion battery of 4000 mAh. This gives the users 20 hours of talk-time and 1080 hours in stand-by mode (for 3G). The tablet is available in black and white colours.
