Overview
The Nokia Lumia 1520 is Nokia's eventual entry into the Phablet space. And what an entry! — Nokia has jumped the gun and put a humongous 6-inch display into this phone. Thanks to the GDR3 Windows Phone update that added support for 1080p displays, the Lumia 1520 has a 1920 x 1080 pixel display. This increases the pixel density to 367PPI, which is more than the smaller-sized, lower-resolution display of the Lumia 1020. Another thing to note; instead of an AMOLED type, the Lumia 1520 has a traditional IPS LCD panel. This is also by far the most powerful Windows Phone with its top-of-the-line Snapdragon 800 chipset; which houses a quad-core 2.2GHz processor. Coupled with that is 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Nokia has also provided a microSD card slot to expand it further; something that was missing in the Lumia 1020.

In terms of connectivity, you've got the latest WiFi 802.11ac, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 compatibility. Where the Lumia 1520 compromises is with the camera. Don't get us wrong; it's 20 megapixel rear-facing camera doesn't sound bad, maybe just not as good as the humongous 41 megapixel sensor on the Lumia 1020. It retains OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), but loses the Xenon flash. It does 1080p HD video recording with stereo sound recording. An updated camera software retains all the special features that we saw with the Lumia 1020. Probably you can put this camera to be in between the Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020. Driving all this hardware is a large-sounding 3400 mAh battery; that naturally boasts a much higher standby, music and talk time than the Lumia 1020.
Just after 8 months of launching what seemed to be their flagship handset for the year 2013 (the XPERIA Z), Sony has already unveiled the XPERIA Z1 (codename Honami) to take the crown. While the humongous XPERIA Z Ultra caters to a different niche category, the Z1 is Sony's prime-time frontrunner. While the footprint of the Z1 is quite similar to the predecessor, the weight and thickness have gone up a notch. That is possibly owing to all the high-end components packed inside this phone. Design-wise, the XPERIA Z1 now has aluminium wrapped on all borders. While the screen is the same 5-inch 1920 x 1080 pixel TFT panel, the Z1 features Sony's Triluminous tech, which results in rich colour reproduction. The water and dust resistance is also upped a notch with IP58 certification. It is powered by the latest-and-greatest Snapdragon 800 chip, that features a 2.2GHz quad-core chip and powerful Adreno 330 graphics. To complement that is 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, with a microSD card slot for further expansion.

However, the highlight of the Z1 remains to be the 20.7 megapixel camera sensor at the back. Unlike the Z Ultra, this phone fortunately has an LED flash. It has a truckload of camera-related features, and both it and the front-facing 2MP camera can shoot 1080p HD videos. The battery size has also been increased to 3000 mAh, which should provide the phone all the juice it needs to power its high-end hardware. All possible connectivity options are thrown in, including LTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0 etc.
