Editor Notes

Samsung launched two new successors to Samsung Galaxy S5 which was a dud. Samsung has finally replaced the plastic body with a metallic one which gives a premium feel. Both these devices have the same hardware which consists of an 64-bit Octa-core Exynos 7420 chipset. There are two sets of Quad-core processors which are clocked at 2.1GHz and 1.5GHz but can run in unison when required. The advantage of having such a combination is that the device performs smoothly under load and can last longer in stand-by. For example- during heavy usage the processor uses all the 8 cores at its maximum potential and during standby only the chip running at 1.5GHz will be used to save battery. Moreover, these phones are the first to sport a 14nm architecture chip which will consume less power and consequently heat less. The processor supports 3GB RAM.

The hardware is top-notch and both these devices will perform superbly. The 16 Megapixel camera at the back can take stunning shots and it also has Optical Image Stabilisation(OIS) which even the iPhone 6 lacks. The OIS is useful while video recording as it reduces blur caused by hand movements. Both the device supports a single SIM(Nano SIM) just like other flagship devices. There is no memory card slot so be careful while selecting internal memory. There are three variants- 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. Both these devices support 4G connectivity in India. There is a slightly larger battery in Galaxy S6 Edge but there may not be a difference in the battery backup of the two devices mainly because of the Dual-edge screen in Galaxy S6 Edge.

Both these devices have a QHD resolution display which translates into a whopping pixel density of 576 PPI. The only difference between the screen of the two devices is that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has curved edged screen. The dual curved screen looks great at first instance but one needs to consider the premium which has to be paid for such a unique screen. So if you want something different in your new smartphone then go for Galaxy S6 Edge otherwise if you are looking for a powerful beast then Galaxy S6 is a sensible choice since you would save a some money as well.
