Essential PH-1 Features

Essential Ph-1 is the first phone from the brand Essential brought to you by the person who created Android. Andi Rubin, the guy responsible for developing Android has been busy for a while with an ambitious project. Essential, Andi’s new company has unveiled its first smartphone, and it runs a new operating system called Ambient OS. It’s the company which claims to unleash the full power of Android and fully utilise the operating system, even better than the Google itself. Well, that’s what they are claiming.

As Andi Rubin believes in, the Essential phone is a perfect example of keeping things simple and elegant. The features an edge-to-edge display and packs in high-end specs to keep itself apart from the crowd. Essential has a unique take on a bezel-less display providing extra real estate by wrapping it around the selfie camera to all the way to the top. It looks like a smart move of placing the selfie camera in the middle of the status bar, as it tends to be empty in most of the Android phones.

The phone doesn’t sport the company’s logo either. Following the rule of simplicity and elegance, the company likes to explain the reason for not putting the logo even more beautifully. It says, “Your phone is your personal property. It’s a public expression of who you are and what you stand for. Just because we played a part in making it doesn’t mean you should be forced to advertise that fact to everyone in your life. Now you know why we don’t have any logos on the phone.“

Apart from selfie camera, the phone also sports a dual rear camera setup. The dual camera setup comprises a standard RGB lens and a monochrome lens. Thereby, letting more light into the sensor and providing better results in low-light conditions. Up front, the selfie camera is backed by an 8-megapixel sensor that can also capture 4K videos.

Besides the dual camera setup and dual tone LED flash, there sits a magnetic connector. Yes, the Essential phone also qualifies for a modular phone. It also comes with a 360-degree camera which can be connected to the phone via small metal pogo pins. The phone also gets USB Type-C port. However, as disappointing as it sounds, the Essential phone misses out on the 3.5mm audio jack. The company has promised through to ship the phone with a headphone dongle.

The company also claims the phone to be very well-made. Its body is made of titanium instead of aluminium which all other phones are made of. The company boasts of a drop-test video in which the phone easily survives without a single bruise.

Coming to the specs part, the phone puts on a 5.71-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1312 pixels. Under the hood, Qualcomm’s latest chipset Snapdragon 835 ticking at 1.9GHz runs the show. Furthermore, it gets 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. For power, it packs in a 3040mAh battery. The handset measures 141.50 x 71.10 x 7.80 mm and weighs 185.00 grams.
