Motorola Moto G (1st Gen) 8GB Features

The Moto G is an entry-level smartphone from the now Google owned phone maker Motorola. Having exit markets like India in the past before the acquisition, this will mark the company’s re-entry once the Moto G starts selling here in January 2014. The Moto G comes in colourful rear shells that are replaceable. sports a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 pixel LCD touchscreen. At its heart, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip, with four cores running at 1.2GHz each. There’s a reasonable Adreno 305 graphics chip onboard as well. Coupled with the chip is 1GB of RAM and either 8 or 16GB of internal memory. Sadly, the Moto G will be one of the very few inexpensive handsets to not have a microSD card slot. This 3G enabled handset can deliver speeds of up to 21 Mbps and has WiFi 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0 support.

There’s a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with an LED flash at the back, accompanied by a 1.3MP front-facing camera. The phone can record videos in 720p HD. FM Radio also makes it to the feature-list, winning the hearts of people who still desire for this feature. Although the phone runs Android 4.3, it is said to run the latest Android 4.4 KitKat by the time it launches in India. There’s a 2070 mAh non-removable battery which Motorola quotes can deliver an “all day battery life”. The Moto G is said to have an attractive price point for the features offered; hopefully under the Rs. 15,000 mark for the 16GB capacity. This is the 8GB variant, which we think will give the likes of the Lumia 520 or the XPERIA M a run for its money.

This was my first ever smartphone and can't ever forget this. One of the best smartphone of it's time, at such an affordable price. I really loved the shape of it and how amazingly the stock android performs in the device. I wanted a better camera but at that time, t was enough. Too good battery life.

This phone does indeed have a micro-SD card slot. It accepts micro-SD cards of up to 32GB, which is exactly what I have plugged into mine. You do have to pry off the back cover to get access to the slot. It has always worked flawlessly for me.

One of the best phone of it's time by offering amazing features in a low budget. Motorola has left Google's OS, largely untouched, just adding a couple of useful features and tweaking the camera app. The Assist app makes your phone more intelligent, for example you can set the hours you usually sleep for and the phone will automatically go silent, or only allow favourite callers or those who call twice in succession through. It will also go on vibrate if you have a meeting in your diary. Both could be useful, though they're still a little inflexible for our liking. The camera in this phone gives good quality images and provides in-built features to enhance picture quality with options like "HD mode". All in all it's a good purchase, although it has it's cons but the pros make one overlook them.
The Good
  • The 8 mega pixel Camera gives good quality images even in low light.
  • The secondary Camera offers 2 mega pixel although results in images better than most 2 mega pixel lenses.
  • Battery life is good enough. Works 9 hours a day with brightness at 50% and normal use of the phone.
The Bad
  • The design of the product is not very pleasing.
  • It does not come in a variety of colors.
  • The internal memory doesn't allow to keep more than 5 apps smoothly.
  • No option to move apps to SD card either.
