When Apple had launched the iPhone X as its first OLED iPhone last year, critics were skeptical about its market reception since it includes an obtrusive notch. However, the design has been not only received well by audience and critics, but also many Android smartphone makers are planning to launch notch enabled full screen design smartphones. An industry insider has revealed that the iPhones releasing in 2019 will not feature a notch. This will be done to let the 2019 iPhones deliver an ultimate full screen experience.
The screen of the iPhone X is surrounded by slim-sized bezels, but it includes a prominent notch at the top portion of the display. The notch comprises of the TrueDepth Camera and Face ID 3D facial recognition system. The notch enabled ASUS ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Z smartphones that were launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in the previous month look very similar to the iPhone X. The upcoming smartphones such as Huawei P20 series and OnePlus 6 are also expected to arrive with a similar design.
The removal of the notch from the 2019 iPhones will allow them to sport a higher screen-to-body ratio than the iPhone X. The source has revealed that Apple is looking forward to delivering ultimate full screen experience by getting rid of the notch.
This will be possibly achieved by placing all the sensors for the front camera and Face ID under the screen of the 2019 iPhone. The other method that Apple may consider for delivering full screen experience is by creating a small hole on the display for certain functions. The new design that Apple may adopt is very likely to inspire Android smartphone OEMs to launch similar full screen design phones.
The source has not disclosed any information on the specs of the 2019 iPhones. However, it is speculated that iPhones arriving in 2019 will be equipped with an in-screen fingerprint sensor. As far as 2018 iPhones are concerned, the Cupertino company is expected to release two OLED iPhones with screen sizes of 5.8-inch and 6.46-inch. It is also pegged to launch a low-priced flagship iPhone featuring a 6.04-inch LCD display.
