4 Out of the Top 5 Most Selling Smartphones in Q1 2018 are iPhones

Apple is known to dominate the best selling smartphone charts since many years now. As per a report by Strategy Analytics, in the first quarter of this year, the Cupertino giant has occupied the Top 4 positions in the Top 5 Most Selling smartphones. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A is the only Android smartphone in the Top 5 rankings. Let’s see the rankings of the most selling devices in Q1, 2018.

The first spot is occupied by the premium flagship iPhone X which has a market share of 4.6% of the total smartphone market. It was earlier rumoured that the iPhone X was seeing diminishing sales and Apple might discontinue it soon. But this report puts all the rumours to rest and clearly indicates that iPhone X has sold in huge numbers.

Second and third in line are the last year’s iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus respectively. The iPhone 8 commands a healthy 3.6% market share whereas the iPhone 8 Plus gathered 2.4% of the market. Thus, the Top 3 smartphones in the industry are Apple’s latest phones launched in 2017.

To top that off, even the fourth position is occupied by the iPhone 7, launched back in 2016. This is a huge feat as an almost 2 year old phone still has a huge selling proposition. It still sold around 1.6% of the total smartphone sales in the duration.

The fifth position is held by the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, making it the only Android device in the Top 5 rankings. One of the prime reasons it sold in huge numbers is the discounted price that the brand offered for the first 5 million units in India. The phone sold 5.4 million units in Q1 2018, almost as much as the iPhone 7.

The trend is indicative of the fact that Apple still continues to dominate when it comes to number of worldwide mobile shipments. We can also expect other Android phones to take over in the coming quarters as Apple will not launch a new iPhone until October this year.
