iPhone 14 series

Like last year, the iPhone 14 series will have four models. Multiple reports have claimed that the lineup will comprise the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups have a “mini” branded model, but reports have claimed that Apple will not be launching the iPhone 14 mini this year. According to market experts, the Cupertino company may have decided to cancel the iPhone 14 mini because the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini had the smallest sales shares compared to other iPhone 12 and 13 models.

New pill + punch-hole display design

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max are expected to feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch OLED panels. These iPhones are likely to sport the same notched display design that was seen on the iPhone 13.

The iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, on the other hand, are expected to sport the new pill + punch-hole display design as seen in the mocked render above. As far as sizes are concerned, the iPhone 14 Pro will have a 6.1-inch OLED panel, while the Pro Max will get a bigger 6.7-inch OLED screen. A recent report claimed Apple may provide a software toggle to blackout the pixels between the two display cutouts. This will make it possible to see a single wide-shaped cutout. Rumours have also claimed that the wider cutout will then be able to display privacy controls for the microphone and camera.

48MP main camera

Since 2016, Apple has been offering a 12-megapixel primary camera on its iPhones. While the company has been upgrading the main camera sensor, the megapixel count has remained the same. Reports have claimed that the iPhone 14 and 14 Max will still feature a 12-megapixel main snapper, but the Pro models may come equipped with the all-new 48-megapixel camera with OIS support. Also, the iPhone 14 lineup should be able to record 8K video and have a new camera on the front.

iPhone 14 Pro models to offer premium features

Reports have claimed that there will be a distinction between the iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max and non-Pro models. The Pro models are rumoured to get premium features the new Apple A16 Bionic chipset, 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM, battery size increase, a new display design, Always-On Display (AOD) support, a 120Hz refresh rate support and a 48-megapixel triple camera unit. The non-Pro models could be packed with the Apple A15 Bionic SoC, 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM, a notched screen, and a 12-megapixel dual-camera setup.

Satellite communication

Apple had reportedly tested the satellite communication feature on the iPhone 13 series, but it wasn’t made available to the users. Rumours are rife that the feature, which will allow users to communicate even when there is no connection to the cellular networks, may finally arrive on the iPhone 14 series. The satellite communication feature on the iPhone 14 lineup might be usable only in emergency situations.
