Airtel recently announced a complete revision of its prepaid recharge plans tariffs in India. The new tariffs from the telecom operator will come into effect starting November 26th. The latest revision from the telco starts from an increase of as low as Rs 20 to a hike of up to Rs 501 for some packs. The base recharge plan of Airtel now starts at Rs 99 instead of Rs 79 and the most premium plan has been revised from Rs 2,498 to Rs 2,999.

This will allow the telecom operator to have a financially healthy business model and accelerate 5G roll out. The company stated that in order to achieve the optimal business model, the average revenue per user (ARPU) needs to be Rs 200 and ultimately reach Rs 300.

Following in the footsteps of Airtel, Vi or Vodafone Idea has also hiked the prices of its recharge plans in the country. The revised tariff of Vi is almost identical to Airtel’s with the base plan starting at Rs 99. It remains to be seen whether Jio also hikes its prices or continues to offer the same tariff to maintain its edge in the market.
