Bharti Airtel has officially started rolling out its VoWiFi or Voice Over Wi-Fi service in Delhi NCR. With VoWiFi, customers can now enjoy faster and better indoor connectivity using compatible smartphones. Airtel plans to roll out the service to other circles soon. Users can expect clearer communication over VoWiFi, which is currently limited to Airtel Broadband/Airtel Xtreme Fiber connections. There are 24 smartphones from popular brands currently sold in India that will be provided with Airtel’s VoWiFi support.
The list includes 13 devices from Apple starting with the iPhone 6s and above running iOS 13, four smartphones in the OnePlus 7 and 7T series, Redmi K20, Redmi K20 Pro, POCO F1, Samsung Galaxy J6, Galaxy On 6, Galaxy M30s and Galaxy A10s. Airtel is expected to offer support for additional smartphones and grow its network circle in the near future.
Airtel’s official website clearly states that the VoWiFi service is only available to broadband users. Interested customers in the NCR region need an Airtel Xtreme Fiber connection apart from a supported device to be able to use the service. Subscribers using Airtel’s Wi-Fi Calling service also need an Airtel 4G SIM. Airtel promises better experience with higher call connection time and superior quality with Wi-Fi calling.
On Apple devices VoWiFi can be enabled by visiting Settings > Mobile Data > Wi-Fi Calling. On OnePlus devices, head over to Settings > Mobile Network > SIM ½ > Wi-Fi Calling. On Samsung smartphones, the Wi-Fi calling option is under Quick Settings. Xiaomi users can find the option under Settings > SIM Cards and Mobile Networks > Airtel > Make Calls Using Wi-Fi. Bharti Airtel plans to roll out the service to other parts of the country. Testing is in progress in parts of Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru.
