Amazfit Ares rugged smartwatch with 70 sports modes and 14-day battery life launched: price, specifications

Wearables-maker Huami launched Amazfit X smartwatch with a curved AMOLED display and water resistance last month. The Amazfit X is currently listed on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo and features a curved AMOLED display as its highlight. Now, the brand has launched a rugged smartwatch called the Amazfit Ares in China with a square dial and silicone bands.

The latest smartwatch can track up to 70 activities including running, cycling, swimming, mountaineering, high-intensity indoor workouts, and more. The watch is designed for outdoor activities as it’s crafted from tough polycarbonate materials and has 5ATM resistance.

The Amazfit Ares ships with a 1.28-inch always-on touchscreen colour display with 176 x 176 pixels resolution. The display is protected by a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3 layer and AF coating. Huami claims that the display adjusts to the ambient lighting for better visibility. As for the design, the watch is crafted from a tough polycarbonate material and silicone bands to withstand tough outdoor environments.

The watch supports up to 70 sports modes, including indoor and outdoor activities such as cycling, walking, yoga, elliptical machine, swimming and more. Interestingly, the Ares also tracks dance workouts like belly dancing, zumba, street dance, square dance, and more. Additionally, there are tracking modes for martial arts like boxing, wrestling, Muay Thai, and others.

The Amazfit Ares also comes equipped with FIRSTBEAT profession-level sports analysis features, which include VO2Max, Exercise Effect, Exercise Load and Recovery Time Data. The watch comes with built-in built-in GPS + GLONASS for location tracking and Bluetooth 4.2 LTE for connecting with smartphones. Speaking of which, the Ares is compatible Android 5.0 and iOS 10 and above.

Other features of the watch include notifications, optical heart rate sensor, Trt-axis accelerometer and barometer. The watch is powered by a 200mAh battery, which Huami claims can last up to 14 days on a single charge. The brand further claims that the watch can last up to 90 days in a watch-only mode, and for 23 hours with continuous GPS use.

Amazfit Ares price and availability

Amazfit Ares is being offered in Black and Army Green colours in China. The smartwatch will retail for RMB 499 (~Rs 5,300) and will go on sale from June 1st in China. There’s no word on the global launch of the wearable as of now.
