Amazon has launched a new addition to its Echo Show line-up. The Echo Show 5 carries a 5.5-inch display panel, built-in camera shutter and HD camera. Consumers can stream the latest music videos from Hungama, listen to the latest hits via multiple apps, watch their favourite TV shows via Amazon Prime and watch news through Aaj Tak, NDTV etc.
Amazon is also planning to collaborate with wikiHow to help users with how-to guides. Users can stay connected with friends and family through the hands-free video call option. The new smart home dashboard provides more control over compatible smart home devices and groups. Tasks like adjusting the brightness of lights can be done directly through the on-screen control panel.
The Amazon Echo Show 5 can also help in customising routines. Users can set alarms and wake up to an “Alexa Sunrise” and the device can switch on the geyser 15 minutes after the alarm goes off via a smart plug. It can also provide weather forecasts and morning news when commanded with “Alexa, start my day.”
The homescreen of the Echo Show 5 can be personalised with pictures and connected to Facebook. The new ambient lighting mode auto-adjusts the brightness of the screen based on the room’s brightness. Users can swipe left from the far right side of the screen to access shortcuts and discover all the functions. To keep privacy intact, the Amazon Echo Show 5 carries a microphone/camera off button and a visual indicator to help determine when content is streaming to the cloud. It has a built-in camera shutter so that the users can easily cover the camera, while they’re still talking to Alexa.
Amazon is working on a new Alexa Privacy Hub which will make it easier for people to delete voice recordings on Alexa-enabled devices. With a simple command, the respective recordings would be discarded.
