Amazon Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite with HDR support launched in India: price, specifications

E-commerce giant Amazon has launched its next-generation streaming devices. The brand has introduced Fire TV Stick (3rd gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite. The former is an upgrade to the existing Fire TV Stick that was announced last January. Apart from the streaming devices, Amazon has also redesigned the Fire TV experience.

Parag Gupta, Head of Amazon Devices, India said in a statement, Customers can now get the most out of their TVs with the next-generation Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite. It offers a more powerful and affordable streaming experience with better voice integration with Alexa.’ Let’s take a look at the Fire TV Stick below.

Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite specifications and features

Both the standard and Lite variants of Fire TV Stick come with 1080p FHD support and 8GB storage.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick features the same design as its predecessor. It comes with an Alexa voice remote which is same as the 4K version with dedicated power, volume and mute buttons. The latest offering supports streaming in up to 1080p resolution at 60fps along with HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG content.

The streaming device also offers support for Dolby Atmos for compatible content and speakers. The Fire TV Stick is equipped with a 1.7GHz quad-core processor that is claimed to be 50 percent faster than the previous generation. It also features a dual-band dual-antenna Wi-Fi with 5GHz support. 

As for the Fire TV Stick Lite, it is an affordable version of the Fire TV Stick. The main difference between the Lite and standard variant is w.r.t Alexa Voice Remote Lite that lacks volume and mute buttons for controlling the TV. Support for Dolby Atmos is also missing on this version. The Lite variant comes with support for 1080p FHD streaming, with HDR, HDR10+ and HLG. 

The Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite come with 8GB internal storage. The streaming device can be plugged directly into the TV’s HDMI port. 

New Fire TV experience update

The Fire TV software has also been updated to offer a simple and customised experience. Amazon says that it has made it easier to discover content with the main menu at the centre of the screen. The Alexa voice assistant also comes with improved voice controls.

Amazon has introduced user profiles for up to six members in a household that will allow them to keep track of shows and recommendations. After Alexa recognizes the user’s voice, profiles can be simply changed by saying ‘Alexa, switch to my profile’. 

Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite price in India

The 3rd generation Fire TV Stick is priced at Rs 3,999 while the Fire TV Stick Lite costs Rs 2,999. Both devices can be pre-ordered today on Amazon. The redesigned Fire TV experience will begin rolling out globally later this year.
