Amazon Prime Video Streaming Service Goes Live in India

Amazon today launched its much-awaited Prime Video service officially in India. The subscription-based premium content streaming service by Amazon is now all set to compete with the likes of Netflix and Hotstar. The e-commerce giant had earlier announced to launch Amazon Prime Video globally to over 200 countries in the month of December.

The launch of Amazon Prime Video was highly anticipated ever since the company propelled its Prime service in India a few months ago. Amazon Prime service, which costs Rs 499 for one year, is benefited with free one-day guaranteed delivery on Prime-eligible products. The best part, Amazon Prime Video works with existing Prime service. Meaning, Prime users don’t need to pay separately for Prime Video which is noteworthy.

Amazon has played it smart enough to get more users on board with this strategy. This way, people will not only pay for premium content but also free one-day guaranteed delivery on Prime-eligible products available on Amazon. Hence, if you are a Prime user, you can straightaway head to the service and start streaming your favourite shows and movies.

We tried Amazon Prime Video service on both Android and Desktop as soon as it became available in India. The Prime Video Android app, which has over one million downloads so far, is 14MB in size. Soon after downloading the app, we signed in to an Amazon account which is already linked to Prime service.

Users can also download premium content to watch offline. However, once downloaded, users can decide whether they want to watch their content now or later. Once they start watching videos offline, they will be available only for 48 hours from downloading. Download option also including choosing a video quality.

Interestingly, you can also continue watching videos from where you left on all your devices you have signed in. The service currently has very limited number of premium shows and movies available on the platform. However, Amazon Prime Video is expected to be filled with more premium content in coming months.
