Android 13 Go Edition with Material You theme launched for entry-level smartphones

  • Google has announced the Android 13 Go Edition
  • It comes with a Material You theme and other changes
  • Phones running on Android 13 Go Edition will ship next year

Android 13 Go Edition has been launched. It follows last year’s Android 12 Go Edition. The Go Edition of Android is for entry-level smartphones that run on less than 3GB RAM.

The Android 13 Go Edition brings a number of changes and it is based on reliability, usability, and customisation. Google also said that there are now 250 million active Android Go devices.

Android 13 Go Edition features

The Android 13 Go Edition borrows some features from the Android 13 OS that was released in August this year. It introduces Material You design, which is the first time for Android Go devices. The feature is capable of changing the whole colour scheme of the phone based on the chosen wallpaper allowing users to customise their phones better. There is also a Google Discover feature that offers access to curated articles and other content by simply swiping right on the home screen.

Google has also introduced Google Play System updates to Go devices. This ensures that smartphones receive crucial software updates faster apart from major Android releases. The search giant adds that the updates won’t take up storage space which is an issue in low-end phones.

Additionally, Android 13 Go Edition also gains other features like the ability to allow notifications, choose app language preferences, and more. Smartphones running on Android 13 Go Edition will start shipping in 2023.
