Apple updates MacBook Air and entry-level MacBook Pro, cuts prices for students

Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has updated its MacBook Air and entry-level MacBook Pro today. Both devices are also available as part of its Back To School promotion. While the MacBook Air features upgrades to its display, the entry-level MacBook Pro now sports key features like a touch bar.

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro pricing and student discount offer

The MacBook Air is priced at Rs 99,900 or Rs 92,704 for students. The MacBook Pro on the other hand will cost Rs 1,19,900 or Rs 1,11,264 for students. The discounted prices will be available to higher education students, their parents, faculty, staff and home-school teachers through the Apple Education Store. The promotion also includes a pair of Beats headphones on purchase of an eligible Mac or iPad. The devices will be available through Apple Authorised Resellers from July 25th.

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro specifications

The 13.3-inch MacBook Air was launched back in October last year. The 13-inch Retina display now comes with True Tone, which automatically adjusts the colour temperature of the display for a comfortable viewing experience. Other specs on the updated Air remain the same as before. Apple has also improved the speakers with wide stereo sound in both the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

Apple has updated the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro by adding True Tone to the Retina display. It now comes with a 1.4GHz quad-core 8th gen Core i5 chip. The laptop also features a Touch Bar with an integrated Touch ID sensor, and comes with an Apple T2 security chip for additional security.

“College students love the Mac — it’s the notebook they rely on from the dorm room to the classroom, and the No. 1 choice among higher education students,” Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac Product Marketing said in a statement.

In other news, Apple has discontinued the 12-inch MacBook and previous-generation MacBook Air.
