Apple announced its smart wireless speaker called the HomePod in India back in January 2020. The HomePod was launched in India two years after it went on sale in the US, UK and Australia back in 2018. Even in January, Apple didn’t disclose the availability date of the HomePod in India.
The smart speaker from the brand has now gone on sale in the country, however, due to the ongoing lockdown will only be delivered to Green and Orange zones. The company has also started emailing customers to inform them that its Siri-powered smart speaker is now available in the country.

The Apple HomePod has been listed on the official website of Apple since January. However, the dedicated page now has a ‘Buy now’ button, which redirects customers to a page that lists all the e-retail platforms. The next page lists Amazon India, Flipkart and Paytm Mall as the authorised resellers, but at the time of writing this piece, none of the websites had the HomePod listed.
As for the pricing, Apple the HomePod will set you back by Rs 19,900 in India.

The Apple HomePod is a 7-inch tall, round-shaped smart speaker that flaunts an array of six microphones and is activated by saying ‘Hey Siri’. The smart speaker is equipped with an Apple-designed high-excursion woofer, which is positioned at the top. Powering the speaker is the Apple A8 processor. The connectivity options include Wi-Fi with MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, and AirPlay 2. The mesh-wrapped speaker features a touch surface on top that lets users control music playback and volume, and trigger the Siri assistant.
Users can ask Siri to send messages, get information on the weather and stocks, relay the latest news and sports updates and more on the HomePod. As for music services, Siri can play songs from Apple Music and other compatible streaming services. The speaker also keeps track of your personal music preferences and suggests your favourite songs and artists, apart from helping you discover new ones.
The HomePod is also capable of controlling Home Kit-enabled smart home devices like lights, ACs, microwaves, and more with your voice. The HomePod also boasts of spatial awareness that is capable of automatically analysing the acoustics and adjusting the sound based on its location and provide 360-degree audio output.
