Apple updates iMac lineup with AMD Vega graphics and up to Intel 9th-gen processors

After a long gap, Apple has launched updated versions of the iMac with better processors and graphics performance. The Cupertino giant has refreshed the lineup with up to Intel’s 9th-generation processors and AMD’s Vega graphics.

According to Tom Boger, Senior Director of Mac Product Marketing, “Customers are going to love the huge boost in iMac performance. With up to 8-core processors and powerful Vega graphics, the iMac lineup is stronger than ever. With its stunning Retina display, amazing design, twice the performance, and macOS Mojave that our customers love, iMac is by far the best desktop in the world.”

Apple iMac 2019: specifications and features

The 21.5-inch iMac will now come with 8th-generation Intel quad-core and hexa-core processors which will improve the performance by 60 percent. The 27-inch iMac on the other hand, has been updated with 9th-generation Intel hexa-core and octa-core processors, which are claimed to make the device up to 2.4 times faster. Along with that, they will come equipped with the Radeon Pro Vega graphics which will improve the graphics performance by up to 50 percent and 80 percent on the 21.5-inch and 27-inch models, respectively. According to Apple, the refreshed iMacs will aid in faster development of 3D content, video editing and designing of high-resolution games.

The Apple iMac is also kitted with 4K and 5K Retina displays which deliver 1 billion colours, 500 nits of brightness, P3 wide colour gamut and 14.7 million pixels. The machine is capable of editing 4K videos as well. As far as the build is concerned, it’s made of aluminium and glass and has a 5mm thin profile. The newly updated iMacs have arrived with macOS Mojave, the latest desktop OS from Apple. Due to this addition, the desktop will have features such as a Dark Mode, Stacks to organise your files, and FaceTime’s group-calling feature.

Apple iMac 2019: price and availability

The 21.5-inch variant of the iMac with a Retina 4K display will sell for Rs 1,19,900 in India, while the bigger 27-inch variant with a Retina 5K display will cost Rs 1,69,900 in India.
