Apple announced the first iPad mini in 2012 and it continued to launch newer models until 2015. After a gap of a couple of years, the Cupertino-based company unveiled the iPad mini 5th generation, also called as iPad mini 2019 last year. The rumours are rife that the company may announce the iPad mini 6th generation in 2021.
An anonymous tipster has now shared the specifications of one of the prototypes of the iPad mini 6. The leak reveals that like the iPhone 12 series, the next-generation iPad mini will sport a boxy design. The tipster also revealed key information about the 9th generation iPad.
iPad Mini 6 specifications (Rumoured)
The tipster has revealed that the iPad mini 6 will be flaunting an 8.5-inch Liquid Retina display. The tablet will draw power from the Apple A14 Bionic chip and 4GB of RAM.
The iPad mini 6 will borrow its cameras from the iPad Air 4, which came with a 7-megapixel front snapper and a 12-megapixel rear camera. The iPad mini 5 has a Lightning port, but the successor model is speculated to arrive with a USB Type-C port. The tablet will be housing a pair of batteries. However, their exact capacities are not known yet.
The iPad mini 6 is likely to borrow its speakers from the iPad mini 5. The compact tablet will also support Apple Pencil 2. The leak has no information on the launch date of the iPad mini 6. Well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had claimed in June that the 8.5-inch iPad mini may go official in Q1 2021. He had also revealed that the slate will arrive with a 20W power adapter. While these findings suggest the existence of the iPad mini 6, there are contradictory leaks that claimed that Apple will be axing the iPad mini lineup.
A report yesterday claimed that Apple plans to replace iPad mini with its foldable iPhone in 2022. The tipster also claimed that the iPad 9 will be a rebadged version of the iPad Air 3 (aka iPad Air 2019) that went official last year. The tipster claimed that the iPad 9 will be arriving in September 2021. It will debut as a successor to the 8th generation iPad – the iPad 10.2 (2020) that debuted this September.
