The iPhone 12 Pro feature triple cameras and LiDAR scanners

The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are both metal and glass-clad smartphones with a boxy design, which is reminiscent of the iPhone 4 series. The new iPhones come with IP68 certification, which means they can survive underwater up to 2 metres for 30 minutes.

The Apple iPhone 12 Pro features a 6.1-inch screen and the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a larger 6.7-inch display. Both these smartphones are fitted with OLED Super Retina XDR panels protected by a layer of Ceramic Shield glass. Out of the box, the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max boot the latest iOS 14. As for the core specifications, these smartphones are powered by the newest Apple Bionic A14 SoC, which Apple claims to be 50 percent faster than competing smartphone chips.

The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are both equipped with triple-camera modules on the rear panel. The iPhone 12 Pro setup comprises a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera. In the front, there’s a TrueDepth selfie camera.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max, on the other hand, features similar resolution cameras but with a 47 percent larger primary sensor (1.7μm pixels), which offers 87 percent improvement in low-light conditions. The telephoto lens also gets an improved 65 mm focal length and 5x optical zoom.

The camera app also gets the world’s first Dolby Vision HDR video recording and Apple’s ProRaw feature. The latter combines Apple’s computational photography with RAW imaging for capturing impressive details. Other camera features include Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 3, and night mode time-lapse, among others.

Apple has fitted the LiDAR scanner from iPad Pro on these two models. The scanner improves autofocus in lowlight and also enhances the depth perception of the camera. The LiDAR scanner is designed to measure the distance from surrounding objects up to 5 meters away. It also features enhanced algorithms for the understanding of a scene to ensure improved AR as well as depth imaging.

The brand has also brought back MagSafe to iPhones for the first time, to enable faster and precise wireless charging.
