Apple iPhone SE (2020) is now being made in India

Apple has started assembling its latest affordable iPhone SE (2020) in India now. The smartphone is being assembled in India at Apple’s Wistron facility in Karnataka. As Apple gears up to launch its official online store in India next month, assembling the iPhone SE (2020) in India will help it avoid 20 percent import duty levied on phones imported from the global markets to India.

This information is in line with a report by The Information back in June, which hinted that Apple will soon start assembling the iPhone SE (2020) in India. The Apple iPhone SE (2020) was launched in India in April and went on sale starting May 20th.

Apple started manufacturing iPhones in India back in 2017 with the original iPhone SE. It then went on to assemble the iPhone 6S, iPhone 7 and iPhone XR in India as well. The iPhone 11 also started getting assembled locally just last month. The iPhone SE (2020) is the sixth iPhone to be produced in the country and will soon come with ‘Assembled in India’ tag. According to a report by Economic Times, Apple will also manufacture the next-generation iPhone 12 models in the country next year.

This move also comes close on the heels of reports that Apple is looking to move manufacturing out of China and ramp up the same in India. According to a report, Pegatron Corp. will soon set up its first plant in India, which will be Apple’s third manufacturing plant in the country after Foxconn Technology Group and Wistron Corp.

The Apple iPhone SE (2020) comes with a 4.7-inch Retina HD display that supports Dolby Vision and HDR 10+. Ticking at the core of the smartphone is the A13 Bionic SoC, which also powered the iPhone 11 series. The smartphone has a Touch ID fingerprint scanner and features an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

For cameras, the iPhone SE (2020) offers a single 12MP camera on the back and an 8MP shooter on the front for selfies. Other features include 18W fast charging, Wi-Fi 6, Gigabit LTE and dual SIM with e-SIM support.
