The iPhone XR was the best-selling iPhone in the 2018 lineup, outselling even the XS and XS Max in the US. While we’ve already seen what the iPhone XI and iPhone XI Max will look like thanks to recent leaks, we’re now bringing you exclusive renders and a 360-degree video of the iPhone XR’s successor, in partnership with the ever reliable OnLeaks. While we still don’t have confirmation on what Apple will name this device, rumours suggest that it could be called the iPhone XE. For the sake of this post though, we’re calling it the iPhone XR 2019. Without further adieu, here’s what you can expect from this year’s ‘affordable’ iPhone.

iPhone XR 2019 renders
The iPhone XR design largely remains the same as last year, with one striking new detail we’ve already seen in the leaked iPhone XI and XI Max images. The glass rear panel of the iPhone XR features a large square bump for the cameras, except in this case, there are only two cameras (vs three on the iPhone XI/XI Max) in the module. The cameras are arranged vertically, with the LED flash on the right.
Apple is also sticking to the same large display notch on the front, which will be housing the Face ID module components. According to OnLeaks, the display on the iPhone XR 2019 will measure 6.1-inches. Since the display size is the same as last year, we can also expect the 2019 model to have an identical LCD panel with a resolution of 1,792 x 828 pixels.
Coming to the port and button placement, we can see the Lightning port at the bottom along with the loudspeaker grill. The power button is located on the right spine along with the ejectable SIM card tray, and volume buttons and mute switch can be seen on the left. As for the dimensions, OnLeaks suggests that the iPhone XR 2019 will measure 150.9 x 76.1 x 7.8mm 150.9 x 76 x 8.3mm. As usual, the camera bump will be the thickest point, at 8.5mm 9.1mm.
iPhone XR 2019 rumoured specifications
A ton of speculations and rumours are already floating around regarding the specs of the upcoming iPhones. Rumours have it that the iPhone XR 2019, like its pricier siblings, will be powered by what we can expect to be named the A13 Bionic chipset. This SoC is speculated to be built using TSMC’s 7nm+ package, and is expected to offer a significant bump in performance over the A12 Bionic.
As for the camera details, not much is known about the dual camera module on the iPhone XR 2019. However, going by previous iPhones, we expect it to retain a pair of 12MP shooters – a wide-angle lens and a 2x telephoto lens. Notably, the iPhone XR features only a single camera module, so this is a significant upgrade for the 2019 model. There is no word on the selfie camera as of now.
Apple is rumoured to include an 18W charger with the pricier iPhones this time around. However, that possibility seems murky with the iPhone XR 2019. The battery capacity is expected to remain the same.
iPhone XR 2019 price and availability
Like every year, Apple is expected to launch the new iPhones in September. Unfortunately, there’s no word on the pricing as of now. Last year, Apple took us by surprise when the hyped iPhone XR was not as affordable as it was made out to be, and we won’t be surprised if the brand follows suit in 2019 as well.
