Apple has been introducing special edition RED series products since a couple of years now. Yesterday, the Cupertino giant officially unveiled red coloured iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. These phones belong to the (Product) RED initiative.
What is (Product) RED?
(Product) RED is a brand that helps in engaging the private sector to raise awareness and funds to eliminate HIV/AIDS in 8 African countries. They license it to partner companies who then create special products for this initiative. Up to 50% of the profits gained on these products is donated to the Global fund to help a noble cause. Until now, Apple has donated up to $160 million for this fund, making it the largest corporate donor for (Product) RED.
When Apple launched the special RED edition of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus last year, it received some flak because the front portion of the phone was white in colour. This time around, Apple has coloured the front part black, which makes it look more aesthetically appealing.
However, Apple hasn’t introduced a new red version for the iPhone X. Instead they have announced a red leather case for the top variant. By purchasing these products, consumers will be able to contribute towards a good cause.
Specifications of both, the iPhone 8 as well as the 8 Plus will be the same as the original variants.

The special edition iPhones will be available for pre-orders from April 10th in stores starting April 13th. But this is only for US and a few other global markets. In India, it will be available in May. Pricing of the RED edition products in India are as follows:
