Apple’s redesigned MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip have been launched in India. One of the major highlights of the new MacBooks is that they are powered by the all-new M2 chip. The second-generation M-series chip succeeds last year’s M1 chip, which powered devices like the MacBook Pro 2020, MacBook Air 2020, iPad Pro 2021, and iPad Air 5.

The M2 chipset is equipped with an 8-core CPU, the next-generation 10-core GPU, 100 GB/s of unified bandwidth, and up to 24GB of fast unified memory. For hardware-accelerated encoding and decoding, the M2 chip comes equipped with a ProRes video engine and a next-generation media engine. Apple says that the M2-powered MacBooks can run Final Cut Pro and Affinity Photo 40 percent faster than the previous generation. The MacBook Air 2022 has a 13.6-inch LED-backlit display with IPS and True Tone technologies. It produces 2,560 x 1,664 pixels resolution, 224ppi pixel density, 500 nits of brightness, and a P3 colour gamut. The notebook features a 52.6Wh battery that supports 67W rapid charging.

The MacBook Air 2022 features the M2 chip, up to 24GB of unified memory, and up to 512GB of SSD storage. The backlit Magic Keyboard available on the device comes equipped with a Touch ID sensor and a Force Touch trackpad. The MacBook Air 2022 also gets an updated 1080p FaceTime camera, which Apple claims twice the resolution even in low-light. There is also a four-speaker system with beam-forming microphones.

The new MacBook Air and updated MacBook Pro with M2 chip also bring support for Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. Both models come preinstalled with macOS Monterey and will get updated to macOS Ventura later this year. In terms of connectivity, the big change is Apple bringing MagSafe back to the MacBook Air. The thin and light notebook weighs around 1.24kg and offers support for Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 6, two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports, a 3.5mm audio jack.

MacBook Pro 2022 features the all-new M2 chip

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is essentially a chip-level refresh with Apple swapping the M1 chip for M2 chip. It still features a 13-inch LED-backlit display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels and a 227ppi pixel density. The MacBook Pro is using an IPS panel with support for True Tone, 500 nits of brightness, and a P3 colour gamut. It is packed with a 58.2Wh battery that supports 67W fast charging.

The M2 powered MacBook Pro comes with up to 24GB of unified memory and up to 2TB of SSD storage. The laptop comes with a backlit Magic Keyboard with Touch Bar, Touch ID, and Force Touch trackpad. The device is fitted with a 720p FaceTime HD camera and stereo speakers.

Apple MacBook Air 2022, 13-inch MacBook Pro price in India, availability

In India, the new MacBook Air comes with either 256GB or 512GB internal storage and is priced at Rs 1,19,900 and Rs 1,49,900, respectively. It can be purchased in Silver, Starlight, Space Grey, and Midnight colour options.

The updated 13-inch MacBook Pro, on the other hand, starts at Rs 1,29,000 for the 256GB storage variant. You can step up to 512GB variant for Rs 1,49,900. It comes in two colours such as Space Grey and Silver. Its listing on Apple India’s website states that it will be available for purchase starting next month. Apple has also revealed that the optional 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter will retail for Rs 5,800.
