Over the last 2 days, Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has quietly announced the iPad Air and iPad Mini 2019 models, along with updated iMacs. The company has now announced the second-generation of its popular wireless headphones, the AirPods. The new AirPods come with various new features compared to its predecessor, while maintaining an identical design.
The second-gen AirPods are equipped with a new H1 chip replacing the W1 chip in the first model. Apple claims that it improves the connectivity with iPhone and iPad and increases talk time by 50 percent. The new AirPods also come with a wireless charging case which is compatible with standard Qi charging. The new cases claim to provide up to 24 hours of listening time for the AirPods, and 5 hours of talk time on one charge. Design-wise, Apple’s latest AirPods look identical to the first model, except for a small LED light on the charging case that indicates the AirPods are being charged.
The second generation AirPods also come with support for “Hey Siri”. Users can trigger the virtual assistant to place phone calls, control music playback and ask for weather updates just by just using the “Hey Siri” voice command, instead of tapping one of the AirPods which was required on the first model.
The new AirPods with a wireless charging case are priced at Rs 18,900, while the AirPods with a standard case will cost Rs 14,900. The wireless charging case will also be offered separately for Rs 7,500 for existing AirPods users, so they don’t have to upgrade to a new model. Customers will be able to purchase new AirPods through authorised Apple resellers later this spring.
