Apple Spring Loaded event top announcements: iMac, AirTag, iPad Pro, and more lauched in India

Apple conducted its virtual Spring Loaded launch event last night. As expected, the Cupertino-based tech giant launched the iPad Pro 2021 and the long-rumoured Apple AirTags. 

But that’s not it. Alongside the two devices, Apple also announced redesigned iMac, a new Apple TV 4K, and a new colour variant of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini. The brand also launched an in-app subscription on Apple Podcasts for ad-free, bonus content and early access. The iMac is offered in seven different colours

Apple debuted its redesigned iMac with a slimmer form factor and a flat back panel instead of a curved one. The new iMac is offered in bright colours including Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Blue and Silver. The device features a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display surrounded by thin bezels with a large bottom chin. 

Apple also updated the new iMac with a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, studio-quality mics and a six-speaker sound system. The wireless keyboard and mouse is also offered in matching colours. This is the first time Touch ID is made available on the iMac via the keyboard. Apple’s new iMac is also powered by the brand’s own M1 processor. The base model configuration packs 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD which can be upgraded up to 16GB and 2TB respectively. 

The new iMac with 7-core GPU starts at Rs 1,19,900 while the 8-core GPU iMac will retail from Rs 1,39,900. It will be available for pre-orders from April 30th with sales beginning in the second half of May.

The Apple TV 4K is powered by A12 Bionic SoC

The Apple TV 4K replaces the original model that had debuted four years back in 2017. It comes with the same square-shaped design with curved edges. The latest offering is equipped with an A12 Bionic chipset that also powers the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR. The processor supports HDR playback at high frame rates. 

Apple also redesigned the Apple TV 4K remote with a thicker and aluminium build. It features a click pad at the top, touch controls, and a Siri button on the side. 

The Apple 4K TV starts at Rs 18,990 while the Siri Remote is available separately for Rs 5,800. The device will be up for pre-orders from April 30th with shipments commencing from second half of May.  

iPad Pro 2021

The iPad Pro 2021 is offered in 11 and 12.9-inch screen sizes. The latter comes with an upgraded miniLED backlit Liquid Retina XDR display. The latest iPad Pro models are powered by the company’s M1 processor that is found in MacBook Air, Pro, Mac mini as well as the new iMac. Both variants are offered with up to 16GB RAM and 2TB storage.

Apple AirTag is the company’s Bluetooth tracker aimed at finding lost or misplaced items. It is user-customisable as well as IP67 certified dust and water-resistant. The AirTag features a U1 chip that uses Ultra-Wideband technology for precise location tracking. The Bluetooth tracking device is powered by a user-removable CR2032 battery that is capable of lasting for a year.

The iPhone 12 and 12 Mini now get a new colour variant

At the Spring Loaded event, Apple surprisingly announced a new Purple colour variant of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini. Apart from the colour variant, the technical specifications and pricing of the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini remain the same as the other colour options. The former starts at Rs 79,990 while the latter starts at Rs 69,990. The Purple colour iPhone 12 and 12 Mini is up for pre-orders from Friday, April 23rd with sales commencing from April 30th in 30 countries. It’s unclear whether India will get the new colour variant.
