iPhone 14 Mini will not launch this year. Apple is all set to ditch the compact offering in the next-generation iPhone 14 lineup. The brand’s upcoming flagships are expected to debut in September.
Apple first introduced the Mini variant nearly two years ago with the iPhone 12 Mini. With the discontinuation of the model, this year we will see four iPhone 14 variants i.e. iPhone 14, 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max.
iPhone 14 Mini will not launch this year
The iPhone 12 Mini and 13 Mini featured a 5.4-inch display in a compact form factor. It attracted a lot of people who wanted small phones and the two devices also received good reviews. However, the Mini variants failed to bring in adequate sales numbers for Apple despite the positive anticipation. Both the iPhone 12 Mini and 13 Mini didn’t quite perform well.
As per the CIRP analyst report, the iPhone 12 Mini only accounted for 6 percent of the total sale of the iPhone 12 series in the first two months of launch. The regular variant recorded 27 percent sales while the Pro and Pro Max versions had 20 percent sales. On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Mini with a better battery and display recorded only 3 percent of all iPhone sales in Q2. The report also added that the iPhone 12 Mini and 13 Mini despite being a part of the flagship series, both performed worse than the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, and the budget-oriented iPhone SE.
Additionally, there seems to be a logical reason for the disappointing sales of the iPhone 12 and 13 Mini. Apple’s flagship iPhone models are seen as premium products with larger displays and better features. Therefore the older iPhone models along with low price tags pushed buyers away from the Mini variants. Another reason for the sale of iPhone Mini is the massive chip shortage globally and the disproportionate demands. This might have led Apple to stop allocating resources for iPhone 14 Mini which is not generating higher sales and profit.
