Apple Watch Series 5 with Always On Retina display launched, prices start at Rs 40,900

At its Apple iPhone 11 launch event held tonight, the Cupertino-based tech giant launched the latest Apple Watch Series 5. The new launch comes as an iterative upgared to last year’s Apple Watch Series 4 and brings several advanced health tracking features. The latest Watch flaunts the same design as last year but with an improved display and better processor.

Apple Watch Series 5 specifications and features

The brand-new Apple Watch Series 5 comes with an all new Retina Display. Apple announced that unlike previous iterations, Apple Watch Series 5 display will never sleep, which means you can take a look at the time and notifications easily. To save battery with the Always On Display, Apple has made use of low-temperature polysilicone and oxide display (LTPO), which is power effiecient. Apple claims that the new Apple Watch offers up to 18 hours of battery life.

The new Apple Watch Series 5 boots the latest watchOS 6, that includes numerous health and fitness features. There’s a Cycle Tracking app to track menstrual cycles, Noise app to understand surrounding sound levels to protect your hearing and Activity Trends. The new OS also brings refreshed watch faces including Meridian, Modular Compact and Solar Dial, which let users customise quicker access to favorite apps. Apple has also integrated compass and updated Maps app to facilitate improved navigation. Another new feature is the International Emergency calling, which works with fall detection to make an emergency call if the user falls and remaind motionless for over a minute. Other features of the watch remains the same as last year’s model.

Apple Watch Series 5 Price and availability

This year Apple is offering the Watch Series 5 in Steel, Aluminium, Titanium and Ceramic casings. In Steel, the watch will be available in gold, silver and space black colourways. Customers picking Aluminium variant will have silver, gold and space gray to choose from. The Titanium model will be available in two brushed finishes, while the Ceramic version is available only in White. There is an Apple Watch Nike edition with a new watch face inspired by the classic Nike Windrunner jacket and custom band, as well as Apple Watch Hermès with premium bands. Moreover, as usual, there are an array of swappable bands that work with all generations of Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch Series 5 starts at Rs 40,900 for the GPS model, and Rs 49,900 for the GPS + Cellular variant. Apple has also dropped the price of its popular Watch Series 3 to Rs 20,900 for the GPS and Rs 29,900 for the GPS + Cellular variant. It will be available in India starting September 27th. The Apple Watch Nike edition on the other hand will go on sale starting October 4th, however, pricing for this version hasn’t been announced yet.
