Apple Watch Series 6 and Watch SE with watchOS 7 launched in India: price, specifications

Apple has launched the Watch Series 6 at its ‘Time Flies’ event tonight. The event was hosted as part of its annual September launch cycle, however, the iPhone 12 series was not the part of the line-up this time. Instead, the event is dedicated to iPads and Apple Watch. The event also witnessed the launch of the first-of-its-kind Apple Watch SE as well.

The Apple Watch Series 6 comes in as the successor to last year’s Watch Series 5 and brings several upgrades across the board. The new-generation Apple Watch comes with an all-new blood oxygen monitor SPo2 sensor, enhanced sleep tracking and ECG. The Apple Watch SE is the toned-down model for those looking for an affordable option.

Apple is offering the Watch Series 6 with a similar design as the previous-generation Apple Watches. There’s an Always-on Retina display, which is up to 2.5 times brighter than the Apple Watch Series. Powering the Apple Watch Series 6 is an S6 dual-core SoC and the wearable boots the latest watchOS 7.  The Apple Watch Series 6 also offers the same all-day 18-hour battery life, while offering 20 percent faster performance.

The new software comes with numerous health and fitness features. Apart from the usual features like fall detection, ECG and cycle tracking, there are few additional features this time around. The headlining features include a new Sleep App for sleep tracking, VO2 Max (a fancy term for cardiac health) and handwashing detection. There’s also Blood Oxygen saturation monitoring through SpO2 sensor.

The Apple Watch Series 6 supports the new Family Setup feature in watchOS7, which allows kids and older family members who don’t have iPhones to use the Apple Watch. Apple has equipped the latest watch with an always-on altimeter, improved watch faces, and fast charging.

This year Apple has introduced a new band called Solo Loop, which is a stretchable band being offered in two finishes – silicone and braided. Another new addition is the first-of-its-kind Leather Link bands, which use flexible moulded magnets to lock in place.

Apple Watch SE specifications and features

The Apple Watch SE offers elements of Apple Watch Series 6 and functionality of an Apple Watch at an affordable price. It features a Retina display, the Apple S5 dual-core processor and both GPS and LTE variants. Among the features it retains from the Apple Watch 6 are the always-on altimeter, fall detection, Emergency SOS, international emergency calling and Noise app. The Family Setup is also supported on the Watch SE.

Apple Watch Series 6 and Watch SE pricing and availability

The Apple Watch Series 6 starts at Rs 40,900 for the GPS version, and Rs 49,900 for the GPS + Cellular model. It will be available at Apple Authorised Retailers soon. The Apple Watch SE, on the other hand, will start at Rs 29,900 for the GPS version and Rs 33,900 for the GPS + Cellular variant.

Apple Watch Series 6 is being offered in gold stainless steel, graphite stainless steel and the first-ever Apple Watch Series 6 Product Red. There are also standard silver, space grey, and gold aluminium case options joined by a brand-new blue colour option. Apple has also announced new colours for the Nike Sport Band, and Nike Sport Loop. There’s also an Apple Apple Watch Hermès steel being offered silver or space black colours with Single or Double Tour styles in vibrant new colours.
