Apple’s WWDC is usually aimed at developers. Like every year, the company announces the next version of its software for devices like iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch, Macs etc. The OS versions get a release date in the fall which is around the same time Apple launches new models of iPhones and Apple Watch.

At its heart, WWDC has always been a forum to create connection and build community,” Apple Vice President Susan Prescott said in a statement.

The company will host a special day for developers and students at Apple Park on June 6th to watch the keynote and State of the Union videos together. This year also Apple is conducting Swift Student Challenge for students who love to code. The Apple WWDC 2022 will be live streamed on the company’s official website and YouTube channel.

Apple WWDC 2022: what to expect

As usual, Apple hasn’t revealed what it will announce at the WWDC 2022. The annual developer conference is a software-focused event where the brand unveils new software versions for its hardware devices. This means we can expect to see iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, macOS 13, and more at the event. Read on to know everything we can expect at the World Wide Developer Conference.

iOS 16

iOS 16 will be the next generation software version for the iPhones. It will debut on the upcoming flagship iPhone 14 series. Rumours suggest that the operating system will come with Always-on Display feature and the brand will aim to keep the power usage low with the functionality. There are also reports that iOS 16 will introduce a revamped notification system and the lock screen will get widget-like capabilities similar to the home screen.

Apple’s first-party apps are also expected to be overhauled including Messages and Health app. The latter is said to come with a medicine management feature as well as improvements to sleep and women’s health tracking.

iPadOS 16

iPadOS 16 is expected to pack significant changes that will reportedly make a laptop replacement. The upcoming OS version is said to feature a redesigned multitasking interface. It will allow users to conveniently see opened apps and switch between tasks. There will also be an option to resize apps and manage apps at once.

watchOS 9

watchOS 9 will reportedly introduce a power-saving mode that will prolong the battery life of the smartwatch whilst allowing the user to use some apps and features. Additionally, the wearable device will get a new atrial fibrillation detection feature as well as new workout types and improved health and activity tracking.

AR/VR

Apple has been long rumoured to launch an AR/VR headset. It’s unlikely to be introduced at the upcoming WWDC. However, the Cupertino-based giant might announce that it is working on AR and VR.
