Taiwanese consumer electronic manufacturer Asus launched two new gaming laptops in India today. One belongs to the new ‘TUF’ gaming series, which the brand introduced for the first time and the other one is in the already popular ‘ROG’ series. The former is the FX504 TUF gaming whereas the latter is the ROG G703. We spent some time with both the devices and below is our experience as well the specifications and features of the newly launched Asus gaming laptops.
Asus FX504 TUF Gaming
The FX504 is the first device in the TUF gaming series by Asus. With this particular series, the brand is aiming to create a range of gaming devices focussed on performance and durability. Also, the laptops are priced lower when compared to its ROG series of devices. This one starts at Rs. 69,990 and it will be available sometime next month or in July.
Going by the looks, it is designed to please gamers and the device doesn’t disappoint in that regard. The laptop weighs 2.3kgs, which is impressive considering it’s a gaming laptop with heavy internals. It has red accents and patterns on the body as well as the keyboard. They keys are backlit and the WSAD keys are highlighted particularly as they are used frequently by gamers.
It has a 15.6-inch Full HD with a refresh rate of 120Hz and a response time of just 3ms. Both of these attributes will aid gamers in a better gameplay experience. The display is also equipped to show 130% sRGB colour gamut and wide-angle view.
Performance-wise, the laptop packs in high end specifications. There are two variants of the device, a core i5 version and a core i7 variant. These are latest 8th generation Intel processors. There is 8GB of DDR4 2666Mhz RAM to ensure smooth multi-tasking and rendering. The laptop packs in a hybrid storage system wherein both the drives are SSDs. It has got 1TB of Firecuda SSD + 128GB of NVME PCIE Gen3x4 SSD. On the graphics department, there are two variants as well: Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1050. Both are GDDR5 capacity graphic processors.
It runs on Windows 10 out of the box and comes with all the major connectivity options including RJ45 Jack, HDMI 1.4, USB 2.0, 2 x USB 3.1 and an audio jack. All of these ports are located on the left side of the device so that there are no tangled cables on the left side for free mouse movement while gaming. This is a well-thought consideration by Asus so as to ensure a better experience.
Asus ROG G703
Asus has launched quite a few gaming laptops in its ‘ROG’ series (Republic of Gamers). The G703 is the latest addition to the same. It is a full-fledged premium segment gaming laptop with maxed out specifications. Thus, it gets an exorbitant Rs. 4,99,990 price tag.
The G703 has a large 17.3-inch Full HD display with an IPS panel on the top. It has a superb 144Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time to render graphics with utmost precision and seamlessness. There is an anti-glare coating on top of the display to prevent reflections. The keyboard consists of an illuminated chiclet keyboard with per-key RGB colour feature.
The laptop packs in the best performance specifications one can expect. One of the major highlights is that it rocks the latest hexa-core Intel Core i9 processor of the 8th generation. It also gets a massive 64GB of DDR4 2666Mhz RAM to ensure best-in-class multi-tasking and processing. The graphic is rendered through the top-notch Nvidia GTX 1080 GPU, which is a GDDR5 processor of 8GB capacity. In terms of native storage, the laptop gets a massive 2TB Firecuda SSD and 3 x 512GB of PCIE Gen3x4 SSD. The device runs on Windows 10 Pro out of the box.
In terms of connectivity, there are three ports on the back: MDP 1.4, Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0. On the sides, there are 3 x USB 3.1 Gen2, SD card reader, Kingston lock, RJ-45 Jack, 3.5mm headphone + microphone jack.
Given the hardware specifications, it can easily run all the AAA gaming titles in ultra graphic settings. We tried out a few games ourselves and were not disappointed.
