ASUS Launches ROG Gaming Laptops and Desktops Powered By Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs

Taiwanese electronics brand ASUS has launched its latest range of gaming laptops under the ROG series. The company has announced the ROG Strix Scar II and Hero II, new variants in the Zephyrus series and the desktop GL12CX. The products were showcased at this year’s CES. All the devices are equipped with Nvidia’s latest GPU. Let’s take a look below:

ROG Zephyrus GX701 & S GX531:

The ROG Zephyrus GX701 is the top end model among the two. The laptop sports a 17-inch Pantone validated G-sync enabled 144Hz anti-glare FHD display. The laptop features thin bezels and offers an 81 percent screen-to-body ratio. On the hardware front, the GX701 is equipped with up to an 8th-Gen Core i7 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 GPU. It packs 8GB DDR4 memory onboard and is upgradeable up to 24GB. The laptop offers 1TB storage in the form of an SSD. The ROG GX701 offers an exclusive GPU switch that easily transitions between gaming and longer battery life.

Touted as the world’s slimmest gaming laptop, the Zephyrus S GX531 measures between 15.35mm and 16.15mm in terms of thickness. The laptop features a 15.6-inch 144Hz anti-glare FHD display with a 3ms response time. Under the hood, the S GX531 is powered by an 8th-Gen i7-8750H processor along with a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU. It packs 16GB DDR4 RAM and offers 512GBSSD M.2 NVMe PCIe storage.

Both the GX701 and S GX531 are equipped with a patent cooling system with anti-dust cooling fans, five heat pipes and four heat sinks. The laptops also feature an RGB backlit keyboard and Aura sync. Connectivity-wise, the devices come with a USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C port, USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C port, USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A port, HDMI output, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

ROG Strix SCAR II & Hero II:

The ROG Strix SCAR II and Hero II are quite similar but targeted towards different gamers. The former is aimed at FPS players while the later is aimed at MOBA players. The SCAR II flaunts a gunmetal finish on the lid with red accents and a camouflage pattern. The Hero series comes with a Black finish with a cyber-text pattern. Both the devices have a 15.6-inch FHD display with an IPS panel and 144Hz refresh rate. They also feature RGB backlit keyboards.

In terms of internals, the Strix SCAR II and Hero II are equipped with the same hardware specifications. Both the devices are powered by 8th-Gen i7 Core processors coupled with 16GB SDRAM. They have Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 GPUs onboard. In terms of storage, the laptops feature dual storage comprising of 256GB SSDs and 1TB SSHDs. The Strix SCAR II and Hero II are equipped with the same connectivity options as the Zephyrus series.

The Strix SCAR II is also available in one additional variant with GeForce RTX 2070 graphics and 512GB SSD + 1TB SSHD storage.


Alongside the gaming laptops, ASUS also launched the ROG GL12CX gaming desktop in three variants. The company says that the devices are overclocked and are equipped with a custom liquid cooler that aids in dissipating heat and providing best gaming performance.

The higher variant of GL12CX is powered by a 9th-Gen Core i9 chipset with GeForce RTX 2080 GPU. It packs 32GB DDR4 RAM and offers 2TB HDD + 512GB SSD storage. The other two variants offer a Core i7 processor with an RTX 2070 GPU. They are offered in two configurations – 32GB RAM and 2TB HDD + 256GB SSD storage, and 16GB RAM and 1TB HDD + 512GB SSD storage.

Pricing & Availability:

Beginning with the Zephyrus series, the GX701 is priced at Rs 3,49,990 while the GX531 costs Rs 2,39,990. Both the devices will be available in April although the exact date is not announced. The ROG Strix SCAR II and Hero II carry a price tag of Rs 1,64,990. The higher variant of the SCAR II retails at Rs 2,09,990. All the three devices are available from March 11th. Both the Strix and Zephyrus series come with a 1-year warranty.

Coming to the desktops, the base variant of the GL12CX (32GB RAM and 16GB RAM) are priced at Rs 2,19,990 and Rs 2,13,990 respectively. The higher model will set you back Rs 3,29,990. The ROG lineup of desktops are now available for purchase and come with a 3-year warranty.
