A month ago, reports claimed that ASUS would launch the ROG Phone 2 on July 23rd. Now the Taiwanese smartphone maker has confirmed on its Weibo account that it will indeed unveil its upcoming gaming smartphone on the said date. The company has started sending out media invites for the launch event in China. The ROG Phone 2 will succeed last year’s ROG Phone and is expected to come with upgraded specifications.
The ASUS ROG Phone 2 is confirmed to debut with a 120Hz refresh rate compared to the 90Hz refresh rate on its predecessor. The Razer Phone 2 also features a 120Hz refresh rate. ASUS is said to be working with Tencent games to make optimised games for the upcoming smartphone. Other specifications regarding the ROG Phone 2 are scarce at the moment. The device is expected to be equipped with a top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855 processor coupled with up to 12GB RAM and UFS 2.1 flash storage. The device was recently spotted on the 3C certification site hinting at 30W fast charging support. However, it’s no surprise since the first gen ROG Phone already comes with 30W charging. The ROG Phone 2 is rumoured to come with an improved cooling system
The ROG Phone 2 will also get a number of gaming-centric accessories but it’s unclear whether older accessories designed for the first-generation ROG Phone will be compatible with the ROG Phone 2. The device will rival the Black Shark 2 and nubia Red Magic 3 in the gaming smartphone segment.
We expect more information about the ROG Phone 2 to surface online leading up to the launch event.
