ASUS ROG Phone 5 confirmed, tipped to launch in India in March

A new ASUS gaming phone with model number ASUS_I005DA was recently approved by China’s 3C and TENAA certification platforms. The number ‘5’ mentioned in the model number suggested that the successor to last year’s ROG Phone 3 could be called ROG Phone 5, and not ROG Phone 4, as initial reports claimed. Today, the company officially confirmed through a Weibo post that its next gaming smartphone will debut as the ROG Phone 5.

According to a tweet by popular tipster Mukul Sharma, the Taiwanese company is planning to launch the ROG Phone 5 in India in March. Hence, it appears that the company may soon begin with its teasers in India.

The TENAA authority of China has approved two ASUS ROG Phone 5 models – ASUS_I005DA and ASUS_I005DB. Both models measure 172.834 x 77.252 x 10.29mm and are fitted with 6.78-inch displays. The ROG Phone 5 duo will run Android 11.

Both ROG Phone 5 variants are expected to come with 6,000mAh dual-cell batteries. The 3C listings of both variants have revealed that these phones may arrive with support for 65W fast charging.

The I005DA model is said to be equipped with a Snapdragon 888 mobile platform and a 64-megapixel triple camera system. It is unclear whether the Snapdragon 888 will fuel the I005DB variant. The rear image of the I005DA available at TENAA shows that it has a dot-matrix display and engraved texts like ‘05’ and ‘Tencent Games.’ Like the A model, the B variant has a horizontal triple camera system but lacks decorative elements.

Other rumours have revealed that the ROG Phone 5 will be equipped with 144Hz refresh rate support, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage.

The ASUS ROG Phone 3 (review) has gone out of stock on Flipkart. This hints that the arrival of the ROG Phone 5 may not be far away. The handset is equipped with specs like a 6.59-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, Snapdragon 865+, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, 64-megapixel triple rear cameras, a 24-megapixel front camera, and a 6,000mAh battery with 30W rapid charging support.
