ASUS ZenFone 7 series launch confirmed for August 26th

Earlier in February this year, chipmaker Qualcomm had confirmed that the ASUS ZenFone 7 will be powered by Snapdragon 865 processor. Now in a live-streamed video on its YouTube channel, ASUS has announced the launch date of the ZenFone 7 series. The company is set to unveil its upcoming offering on August 26th at 2 pm local time (11:30 am in India).

The ZenFone 7 series is expected to arrive in standard and Pro versions, and as the successor to last year’s ZenFone 6 (ASUS 6Z in India). The live-stream video doesn’t reveal much information, but hints at a quad-camera setup aligned horizontally.

ASUS ZenFone 7 specifications and features

The standard ZenFone 7 will be equipped with the Snapdragon 865 chipset

The ASUS ZenFone 7 series is expected to retain the motorised flip camera module from its predecessor. However, the brand is tipped to increase the number of cameras on its upcoming offering.

The standard ZenFone 7 was spotted on Geekbench with the Snapdragon 865 processor and 16GB RAM. On the other hand, the Pro model is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 865+ SoC. Both the variants will come with support for 5G connectivity. The vanilla variant of ZenFone 7 had also received NCC certification that revealed some key specifications. The smartphone will reportedly feature a 6.7-inch display and offer 512GB onboard storage. The device is expected to pack a 5,000mAh battery unit with 30W fast charging support.

Regardless, we expect the upcoming ZenFone 7 to debut with significant upgrades compared to its predecessor. The latter offered an LCD display with low refresh rate and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, which are now outdated features on most flagships of today.

As of now, there’s no word whether ASUS will debut its upcoming ZenFone 7 series in regions outside Taiwan. The company is not allowed to sell ‘Zen’ branded devices in India so the ZenFone 6 was launched in the country as ASUS 6z (review). It’s likely that the ZenFone 7 could also arrive as the ASUS 7z. We will have to wait until the launch event to find out more details.
