Earlier in this month, Asus had unveiled the Pegasus 4S smartphone in China as its first phone with 18:9 display. Today, the Taiwanese company has officially unveiled the mid-range ZenFone Max Plus (M1) as its first ZenFone series phone with 18:9 display.
Design and Display
The ZenFone Max Plus (M1) seems to be rebranded Pegasus 4S for international markets as both the smartphones sport similar design and specs. It sports a full metallic chassis that measures 152.6 x 73 x 8.8mm and its weight is 160 grams. Compared to Pegasus 4S, the Max Plus (M1) features a higher resolution supporting screen, and lower RAM and storage options.
The new ZenFone features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD screen that supports Full HD+ resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels. The screen is shielded by 2.5D curved glass. The official site claims that the smartphone offers a screen-to-body ratio of around 80 percent.
Performance and Variants
The 28nm MediaTek MT6750T chipset powers the smartphone. It is the same SoC that powers the ZenFone 3S Max smartphone that was launched earlier this year. It includes a large battery of 4,130mAh capacity that promises a 3G talk time of 26 hours and standby time of 26 days. It takes 3 hours to charge the entire battery through its 10W charger.
The ZenFone Max Plus (M1) comes in two models such as 2 GB of RAM + 16 GB of storage and 3 GB of RAM + 32 GB of storage. It also features a dedicated slot for adding a microSD card. The smartphone is running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS that is skinned with Zen UI 4.0. It is also equipped with a built-in amplifier for immersive audio experience.
Cameras and Connectivity
The Max Plus (M1) is fitted with dual rear cameras that include an f/2.0 aperture 16-megapixel sensor and an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens that supports 120-degree field of view. For shooting selfies, it houses an f/2.0 aperture 8-megapixel front camera that possess the ability to beautify selfie shots by enhancing skin tone. The rear and front cameras are accompanied by single-LED flash.
The back panel of the phone features a fingerprint scanner. The front camera also supports facial recognition for unlocking the phone. The connectivity features available on the smartphone include dual-SIM support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0, 3.5mm audio jack, and GPS.
As of this writing, there is no information available on its pricing. It comes in three colors like Azure Silver, Solar Gold and Black Wave. The Taiwanese company has recently unveiled the ZenFone Max Plus (M1) in Russia. The company is yet to confirm on the markets that will be receiving it.
