Ather 450X Gen 3 and 450 Plus Gen 3 have been launched in India. The Hero MotoCorp-backed brand unveiled the first generation Ather 450X in 2018. Its second generation was released in 2020 and now the company is back with its third-generation model.

The Gen 3 series promises a range of up to 146 km. It comes with several updated features and improvements. Ather Energy’s new electric scooters will rival the likes of TVS iQube, Ola S1 Pro, Okinawa Okhi90, and Bajaj Chetak.

Ather 450X Gen 3 and 450 Plus Gen 3 launched in India

The Ather 450X Gen 3 and 450 Plus Gen 3 feature a 3.66 kWh battery, which weighs around 19 kg. To recall, the predecessor model featured a 2.9 kWh battery pack. The 450X Gen 3 takes around four hours and 30 minutes to go from 0 to 80 percent. It can be fully charged in five hours and 40 minutes.

The 450X Gen 3 gets an electric motor with 6.4 kW of maximum power. It supports four riding modes: Sport, Ride, Eco, Smart Eco, and Warp. The Ather 450 Plus Gen 3 has a 5.8 kW electric motor and supports four ride modes: Sport, Ride, Eco, and Smart Eco.

The Gen 3 series has up to 146 km of range on a full charge. In Eco, Ride, Sport, and Warp modes, it will offer a range of 105 km, 85 km, 75 km, and 65 km, respectively. The Bengaluru-based company’s new electric scooters are outfitted with MRF tyres that promise a 22 percent increase in grip. The Gen 3 series also comes with new accessories like a side-step for the pillion, a rear-view mirror, and 18 / 16 litre optional accessory bags.

The Gen 3 models will come equipped with a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen display with an LED backlight. It will be powered by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of ROM. It brings support for new features such as voice commands and multi-language support. The updated UI on the Gen 3 series promises a smooth experience while navigating through its different features.

The ex-showroom price of the Ather 450X Gen 3 in Mumbai is Rs 1,49,934 lakh. On the other hand, the 450 Plus Gen 3 has an off-showroom price of Rs 1,28,424 lakh in Mumbai. The prices of both electric scooters will vary from city to city across the country. Both models are available for booking, test rides, and purchase.

“We’re keeping the product branding the same. But internally, the engineering and the hardware, and the specs have changed considerably. The biggest change is the battery pack that is becoming almost 25 per cent larger, from 2.9 kilowatt hours to 3.7 kilowatt hours,” Ather Energy co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta told PTI commenting on the launch of the 450X Gen 3 and 450 Plus Gen 3. He added, “Mehta said, “Basically, what we see is Ather will become the largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in the country by volume and I think 450X Gen 3 will take electric vehicles finally mainstream.”

According to a market survey, Ather Energy ranks behind Ola, Hero Electric, Ampere, and Okinawa. Ranked at fifth, it is ahead of Bajaj and TVS.
