The Indian electric scooter market could get another viable competitor, according to a new report. E-scooter manufacturer Ather Energy’s Community Day event on January 7 could play host to this new offering. Although details are currently scarce, the new e-scooter could serve as a cheaper alternative to the likes of the Ather 450X and 450 Plus.
According to 91Mobiles, this rumoured budget Ather e-scooter could opt for a tubular frame rather than the aluminium one used on Ather’s premium e-scooters. It’s also possible that Ather will unveil a completely new offering altogether, one that’s not based on any of its existing vehicles.

91Mobiles also cites a report by the Delhi Transport Department, revealing an Ather e-scooter featuring a 3.6 kWh battery. It’s unclear whether this is the same scooter that the company intends to reveal later this week or a completely different vehicle altogether. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait long to find out.
2023 Ather e-scooter Expected Price
There’s a big market for affordable e-scooters in India right now, although the options are somewhat limited. Ather may be trying to sell this new scooter at under Rs 80,000 to compete with the Ola S1 Air, which has an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 84,999.
Ather has successfully established its brand across India, including the smaller towns. However, Ola has just witnessed a successful 2022, thanks to its S1 lineup of e-scooters. Overall, the company reportedly sold 1.5 lakh e-scooters last year.
