Auto Expo 2023: MG Motor India to show off MG4 electric hatchback, Air EV concept, and more

Highlights

  • The MG Air EV is already available in Indonesia and is based on the Wuling Air EV
  • MG will also reveal the refreshed version of the ZS EV at the automobile event this month
  • The Air EV could rival the Tata Tiago EV at launch, despite the higher expected price

We learned last month that the MG4 EV would be shown off at the 2023 Auto Expo. We’ve now received official confirmation from the company about its plans for the annual automotive event in Noida.

As Autocar India points out, MG’s marquee automobile at this year’s event is already available in key global markets. The MG4 EV’s arrival in India could be huge, considering the lack of electric hatchback options in the country, barring the Tata Tiago EV, which is still the most affordable EV in the country.

In addition to the MG4 EV, the automaker will unveil new iterations of the MG Hector and Hector Plus. Autocar reports that the company will also reveal the pricing of the two new ICE automobiles during the course of the event.

MG Air EV to make an appearance at the 2023 Auto Expo

We’ve heard quite a bit about MG’s two-door EV in the past, based on the Wuling Air EV, which is currently available across Indonesia. The manufacturer will reportedly reveal a concept of the Air EV at the event while still pushing for a launch in the first half of 2023 in the region. On top of being a relatively affordable electric car, the Air EV would also be the smallest at just 2.9 metres.

The Wuling Air EV

Despite the small profile, reports suggest that the MG Air EV may cost more than the Tata Tiago EV. So it’s unclear if MG will be able to strike a chord with the masses, especially considering the radical new design. The Air EV can reportedly run for up to 250 km on a full charge, which makes it an ideal commuter vehicle in the cities. Additionally, the slender profile should also enable greater manoeuvrability in traffic. This is an area where it could have an advantage over its rivals, including Tata’s popular electric hatchback.

The manufacturer will also show off the MG ZS EV facelift at the automobile event this month, which is available in India starting at Rs 21.99 lakhs.
