In early June, China-based TCL Mobile had launched the BlackBerry KEY2 smartphone in New York. The company has recently released the smartphone in markets like Canada and the U.S. Today, BlackBerry licensee Optiemus Infracom has introduced the KEY2 smartphone in India. It is the only smartphone among the well-known brands to feature a physical QWERTY keyboard. Moreover, it is the first BlackBerry phone with dual rear cameras.
BlackBerry KEY 2 Specifications and Features
The BlackBerry KEY 2 features a diamond textured rubberized polycarbonate rear shell with a horizontal dual camera setup. It is equipped with a highly durable 7000-series aluminum chassis. The KEY2 measures 151.4 x 71.8 x 8.5mm and it weighs 168 grams. It is fitted with a 4.5-inch IPS LCD display that produces an aspect ratio of 3:2 and Full HD+ resolution of 1620 x 1080 pixels. The screen is tucked under a layer of 2.5D curved glass.
The BlackBerry KEY2 features a QWERTY keyboard with 20 percent larger keys than the predecessor KEYOne for comfortable and accurate typing experience. There is a universal shortcut key on the keyboard that is dubbed as Speed key.
It can be pressed along with another pre-configured key to access apps, contacts and functions from any screen on the phone. The entire keyboard functions as a trackpad and with Flick Typing feature can smartly predict text while typing. A fingerprint scanner is embedded in the space key.
The Snapdragon 660 SoC is present under the hood of the phone. It is assisted by 6 GB of RAM and 3,500mAh battery that is equipped with support for Quick Charge 3.0. The company claims that the battery of the KEY2 can last for 25+ hours with mixed use. The handset comes in storage models like 64 GB and 128 GB and it also features a microSD card slot.
The KEY2 comes preinstalled with Android 8.1 Oreo OS. It is packed with DTEK security features such as Locker secure folder app, Firefox private browser and Privacy Shade. Since it is listed with other Android Enterprise Program, Google recommends it is a suitable phone for business use. Also, Google will be releasing security updates to KEY2 users on a regular basis. The handset will also receive one major Android version update which means it will be receiving Android 9.0 P update in the near future.
The back panel of the BlackBerry KEY2 features a pair of 12-megapixel cameras enabled with dual-tone LED flash. The primary sensor offers 1.28-micron pixels, f/1.8 aperture, 79.3-degree field of view and PDAF and the secondary telephoto lens features 1.0-micron pixels, f/2.6 aperture and PDAF.
The Optical Superzoom features can shoot impressive zoomed-in photos. It is achieved by capturing multiple images every time the user hits the camera shutter key. These images are stitched together to create a new photo with very less noise. The dual cameras carry support for 4K video shooting. At the front is a fixed focus 8-megapixel camera that carries support for 1080p video recording. The LCD screen of the phone can function as a selfie flash while shooting photos through the front camera.
The KEY2 is a dual-SIM phone. It includes usual connectivity features such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack and USB-C.
BlackBerry KEY2 Pricing and Availability
The BlackBerry KEY2 has landed in India with a price tag of Rs. 42,990. Amazon India will begin it exclusive sales from July 31. Launch offers for KEY2 includes cashback from Reliance Jio and ICICI bank. The company will be introducing two more launch benefits soon. The handset can be bought in colors like Silver and Black.
