- BYD India opened pre-bookings for the Atto 3 in October
- The company has supposedly received 15,000 pre-bookings so far
- As of now, BYD retail dealerships are only available in a handful of cities across the country
After recently opening pre-bookings for its flagship EV in India, BYD has officially launched the Atto 3 in the country. It seems like interest for the EV is fairly decent, with the company saying it has received 1,500 pre-bookings since the window opened last month.
With the launch of the BYD Atto 3, the Indian EV space has another robust competitor in the luxury EV space. While the EV is unlikely to affect the Tata Nexon EV’s sales given the significant difference in pricing, it would compete with the recently launched MG ZS EV as well as the Hyundai Kona, which has been available for a while now.
BYD Atto 3 range, features, price
The Atto 3 is a widely popular EV in China and is likely to be available in Europe not too long from now. It features a 60.48 kWh battery pack, supposedly capable of delivering 521 kilometres of range on a full charge. The Atto 3 supports DC fast charging (80 kW), juicing up the battery from 0 to 80% in just 50 minutes. One of the key highlights of the Atto 3 is its ability to power appliances and even small-sized homes (up to 3.3 kWh) with its battery. This is achieved using the vehicle’s VTOL (Vehicle to Load) mobile power station feature.
BYD has also paid close attention to the performance of the electric SUV, with the onboard motor delivering 201 bhp of output and 310Nm of peak torque. Acceleration-wise, the EV can sprint from a standstill to 100 kmph in less than 4 seconds.
Now for the all-important question of pricing. While there were speculations about the EV costing between the range of Rs 25-30 lakhs, that hasn’t turned out to be the case. Customers will have to spend Rs 34 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the entry-level version of the Atto 3 in India. This is higher than the MG ZS EV, though BYD India will hope that the wide array of features and the superior range will convince users to shell out upwards of Rs 35 lakhs (on-road) for the Atto 3.
BYD Atto 3 interiors
The Atto 3 includes an industry-topping 12.8-inch rotating infotainment display and a panoramic sunroof. Keyless entry is included by default, while users can even pair NFC devices with the EV.
There’s also a 360° Holographic Transparent Imaging System, which helps eliminate blind spots. Customers will appreciate the inclusion of a dedicated air purification system situated within the Atto 3, complemented by a PM2.5 air filter.
BYD Atto 3 colours
Customers can get the Atto 3 in Surf Blue, Ski White, Boulder Grey, and Parkour Red colours. Availability may differ depending on your location, while the company will expectedly prioritize deliveries of pre-bookings. Retail presence is currently limited to a handful of cities. For instance, Karnataka only has two dealerships, and both of them are in Bengaluru.
This was always on the cards, given that the company was just making its way to the country. However, BYD India has ambitions to expand its distribution channels in the hope of reaching a larger portion of the population.
